For much of the twentieth century, the district around here, Fitzrovia, was the haunt of artists, writers, eccentrics and colourful hangers-on. This walk from Fitzroy Square Gardens visits the spiritual centre of London’s Bohemia. We take in part of North Soho — now a hub for film and TV companies, screening rooms and advertising agencies — and head for Bloomsbury. The Bloomsbury Group, Virginia Woolf and her friends, “lived in squares, painted in circles and loved in triangles”. We’ll concentrate on the squares and their gardens today, but along the way we’ll see some reminders of old Fitzrovia, and walk down the oldest surviving residential walkway in London.
