Event Details

Southwark today belies its colourful and influential past. Before the advent of the railways it was a bustling place and played an important part in London’s daily life. The hop trade, stemming from the Garden of England (Kent), is just one example of past activity that shaped Southwark and along the way we’ll trace its decline and the recent rebirth of small scale brewing in the area. But our main aim is to explore the very varied green spaces of today, retrace their sometimes unusual pasts, and manage to weave Dickens, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Keats, and others into the story as we wend our way.
